Luz is 53 years old, presently she has three income sources: a general store, a phone booth, and rent from rooms at her home. Luz has one daughter who is economically independent. Luz has a 15-year experience and in spite of competition, the general store she runs is one of the oldest and best-known by the neighbors which allows her to count on a stable group of costumers. The present request will be used to purchase supplies for the store. This is the fourth time Luz is working with our institution and she keeps a very good record of accomplishment.

Update on your loan to Luz Maximiliana in Bolivia

Entrepreneur: Luz Maximiliana
Location: Location Undisclosed, Bolivia

When I went to visit Maximiliana today, she wasn’t in, so I talked to her husband Felipe instead. Unfortunately, her mother fell sick suddenly so she had to make an emergency trip to a village about eight hours away. It’s rare for her not to be at her store, since she usually never closes shop, her husband told me. (Her house is right next door to her store.)

Maximiliana has a very well-stocked little store that sells soft drinks, beer, cookies, bread, cosmetics, perfume, paper, pens, detergents, public telephones—basically anything that one might need from a corner store! She used her loan to buy a greater variety of products for her store. She was one of the first people to open a store on this street, but since her business started to succeed some competing stores have opened up. Though there is considerable competition now, her store is still one of the best in the area, and she has lots of clients.

With the profits from her business, Maximiliana bought a plot of land next door to her house, and she plans to take out another loan to build a two-story home on it for herself, Felipe, and her son. Her other adult child works in Spain.

This is a picture of Felipe in front of the lot they just bought, on which they plan to build a new home.
