Soleil D'amour Group

Thank you for your loan. It has been disbursed to the Soleil D'amour group, consisting of Anise Monestime, Estimable Macula, Louis Silianne, Mareus Cleomene, Celicourt Clerzilia, Joanem Annalouis, Roselene Yasentte, Marseille Marieclaudette, Felix Lormilia, Dolce Roseleine by Esperanza International in Haiti. We are excited to watch this business grow. Over the next 6 months, Esperanza International will be collecting repayments from this entrepreneur and posting progress updates on the Kiva website.

The Soleil D’Amour Group has had its up and downs. The same day that the loan was disbursed, there was an associate who realized she couldn’t do the loan and she was immediately deactivated in the system after she repayed the loan in full. Her honesty helped the group realize that there is a an extra sense of responsibility that comes with the loan, just as their loan officer had said during training.

Starting off the repayment cycle well with full attendance at the meetings, high saving amounts, Mimose the responsible loan officer expected this to be a great group. Things began to change half way through the loan where a couple of people missed a payment and the group fell into a little of a downspin. When encouraged and lightly pressured by the loan officer and other group members one of the members fled to the Dominican Republic. Before the loan cycle was complete 3 other associates would do the same.

With 4 out of the 14 in the group being out of the country, the loan officer encouraged the group to practice solidarity and pay the balances of those members who fled. Though the group wants to take another loan, they have to date refused to pay for the balances of the 4 members and hence are not being allowed to take another loan. Mimose, the loan officer continues to encourage and ask the remaining members to keep an eye out for those who fled but until the balances are paid she is not able.
