Namusoke Jalia’s story is one that cannot go unnoticed. She is the treasurer of Kiwamirembe Women’s group in Mukono and has a retail shop in Kigombya that deals in selling clothes; Bitenge, the Nigerian wear, and suits for ladies that she buys from Kampala mostly on Thursday and Sunday. Her shop also has a fridge for selling sodas and beers.

Jalia is a widow with 4 children of her own as she cares for 3 orphans that have since become her own. These orphans are of no relation to her but she has decided to take them in after their parents (fathers), with the support of their stepmothers deserted them for death, and she does this with the awareness of the Police and the local authorities. She says she does this not for material gains but to help those in need considering what she went through as a child. This is not a story to bring sympathy but to let the world know that such big and kind hearted people still exist. The little she has is shared among themselves as she also pays for their school fees, except 2 children who are still 3 years old. This story is what inspires Jalia to work so hard and she would like to start up an orphanage since child neglect cases are so numerous in her area, and her husband left her enough land for that.

She would like a loan to help with buying 15 crates of soda with half of her loan and the other half for buying suits and bitenge for the shop.

Entrepreneur: Kiwamirembe Women's Group
Location: Mukono, Uganda

Namusoke Jalia is blessed in her business because she is able to run her well stocked shop while at the same time servicing her loan with ease. She is quick to mention that the secret to her success is the variety of quality products in her shop but above all proper management of each shilling that she gets hold of hence becoming big in business by the day and being able to pay fees for her children plus other orphans. Jalia says that she has developed a partnership with Pearl Microfinance as a replacement of her late husband and she is not regretting the move because now even her children can go to school just like before when her husband was still alive.
