Kayingo Rashidah, the Chairperson for Jinja Agency Lending group, is an exception. She is a “hawker” and sells new clothes for young girls without a fixed location, but walks around busy markets and taxi parks carrying and selling them, a job she has done for 6 years. She is 50 years and married with 7 children, as she caters for 2 stepchildren and 4 grandies. Rashidah says life is good now, compared to when she was trading in used clothing, and she has been able to buy a fridge with the previous loan, stocked it with soda, and placed it in a friend’s shop.

With her portion of the group loan, she plans to buy more new girls’ clothing to sell, which she buys from Kampala, the capital city, as well as stock the fridge with more soda, beer and juice. She is really business oriented and respected as the group leader, and she has a 6 years’ experience with loans. Her dream is to be able to rent a store as her shop because moving around is not an easy job now that she is growing old.

Journal Entrepreneur: Jinja Agency Women's Group Location: Jinja, Uganda With each part of a loan to Kayingo Rashidah, she is able to develop her self and family through developing her businesses. She has a fridge positioned in a friend’s shop that is able to fetch her some income through the sell of cold drinks and she says that at the moment she is in position of buying another but due to the lack of space in her friend’s shop, she is saving the money for renting a store that she will use to sell her clothes as well as put in her fridge, a pay phone and other cosmetics so that the variety will bring in an increased income to stop her from feeling the burden of rent that most business people complain about. She is so grateful for her loans and believes that the loans will continue performing wonders for her and the entire group especially with her clothes’ selling business.
