Twenty-four year old Rashid is expanding his business portfolio. After five years in business, he now owns two audio/video shops. One shop is on a main street in Khachmaz and one is in the town bazaar. He put his Kiva-funded loan toward purchasing a computer. The computer helps him manage his businesses as well as create higher quality mix disks (copyright laws are a little relaxed in Azerbaijan – though I’ve heard that is soon to change.) Rashid’s street-side shop is small, but completely lined with popular albums by Azerbaijani, Turkish, Russian, and English-language musicians. Music blares down the street to attract customers and to entertain the neighboring businesses. Rashid is tapped into the buying habits of the younger population in Khachmaz, and he is positioned to continue expanding and diversifying his businesses.
