Please note that Kiva considers loans to this Field Partner, CRAN, to be particularly HIGH RISK. This organization has had very serious delinquency problems brought about by problems with its credit methodology, local environmental shocks including a depletion of local fisheries in its core area of operation (Cape Coast and the Central Province), and insufficient follow up with late clients. Journal Update

Entrepreneur: Grace Van-duck
Location: Cape Coast, Ghana

Grace Van-Duck took out a loan to buy products for her provisions store. She was able to buy more products but says the economy in the area hasn’t been doing well—it is a fishing town and not as much fish has been coming in. She says her income is not big but that it has improved. She used some of her profits to help her eldest son, age 25, when he hit a pedestrian while working as a taxi driver. She also took care of her 22-year-old daughter who attends university and her 19-year-old daughter who goes to senior secondary school (high school equivalent).

Currently divorced, she dedicates most of her profits to taking care of her children and maintaining her house.

Van-duck started her business fourteen years ago with just a small table on the street with some of her own money and has expanded it to its store location today. She also finished catering school long ago and still caters special events such as funerals and weddings to earn extra income.
