Vusal is working hard at making his business dreams a reality, one snip at a time. He greeted us outside his simple, one-barber-chair shop, wearing a crisp white jacket, his hair perfectly trimmed and combed.

With his $1,200 Kiva loan, Vusal invested in improving his equipment and the conditions. He showed us the new generator that he bought, his new blow drier and his new clippers. He still has other improvements in mind to make with the loan: he wants to replace the corrugated-steel ceiling and fix up the whitewashed walls, he said. His profits have improved by 50 percent since the loan already, he told us.

The new husband told us in Azeri of his hopes for the future. "My future plan is to open a much bigger salon, hire staff and take a place with much better conditions," he said.
