Shahnaz Shokat's Group

I am Shahnaz Shokat from Multan, a mid-sized city in Pakistan. I am married and the mother of five: three daughters and two sons. My eldest daughter is 15 years old and studies in grade eight; the next to her is 11 years old and attends grade six. Then comes my nine-year-old son who studies in grade four. The daughter next to him is seven years old and studies in class one, while the youngest of all is too young to attend school. My husband is a welder and manufactures objects such as iron window frames and doors and I sew clothes for my neighborhood clients on order. I need to buy computerized sewing machines so that I can hire a few girls and thereby expand my business.

There are four other women who are also in need of loans and they are: Naseem Ramzan, who requires a loan for her vegetable business; Koser Parween, who runs a boutique; Shamim Satar, who will buy a dairy cow; and Ayesha Kanwal, who runs a canteen in a school.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.



About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
