Silvia, age 36, is the single parent of three children, ages 17, 14, and 2. She runs a poultry business, which she started eight years ago, as well as a charcoal business, which she began three years ago. She works at these businesses from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and is able to make a monthly profit of about $180 from her work.

In the past, Silvia took two loans from Tujijenge Tanzania to revive her chicken business when it was struggling to make a profit. She now hopes for a new loan to buy more chicks and feed for the chickens. She will share this loan with her loan group Riziki, which totals 19 members who guarantee each other in paying back their loans.

Building Up! Entrepreneur: Silvia's Riziki Group Location: Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania Greetings from Tanzania! Thank you for supporting the Riziki group. Unfortunately, the entrepreneur originally interviewed for the business profile is no longer with the group. However, we did get to speak with Sharon Ndanga, a fellow group member. With the loan Sharon received, she purchased more timber for her furniture building business. With the increased stock, her monthly profit rose from $163 before the loan to about $326 per month after the loan! Sharon used the additional profits to purchase more timber and open a workshop. Sharon and the Riziki group are very grateful for the loan and are thankful to everyone who has supported them.
