Phin Chuon

Phin Chuon is a 45 year old widow. She makes a good living in Phnom Penh selling scallops. She earns US$27 per day. However, this amount represents her total sales, not profit, and most of her money goes back into buying the scallops to sell. She has five children. Two of her children are already married. Two of her sons are professional dancers earning US$5 per day. She also has a daughter who goes to school on a scholarship that also pays US$3.50 per day so she can devote herself fully to her studies. Phin Chuon wants to take out a loan specifically to increase her profits from her scallop selling business. She will use the loan to purchase scallops cheaply and in bulk and thereby maximize her later profits. She also will use some of the money to invest in mechanic tools for one of her sons who wants to start working with motorbikes for a living.
