The Committee of Entrepreneuring women is a program run by Fundación Paraguaya that targets groups of enterprising women. These women create a village bank through which they receive assistance in terms of loans. The main goal is to give them the opportunity to perform economic activities that enable them to live with dignity and contribute to a better quality of life in their homes. Lending to poor women creates a cascading effect that brings social and economic benefits to a whole family, and thus to the entire community. Moreover, the sense of belonging to a group gives these poor women committee members the energy and motivation to reach success.

In a remote area of Ciudad del Este called B Remancito, Alicia Gomez contacted her friends and neighbors and told them about the committee. She shared with these women her desire to change their world for the better by working very hard. Alicia’s hopeful words stimulated optimism among these women and they decided to form a committee.

The group includes 18 women with the following businesses: Despensas (grocery stores, a very profitable market in Paraguay, since we consider it a tradition to buy from a Despensa), sewing workshops, and businesses selling clothing, cosmetics, bijouterie, and cutlery. Their target customers are the other women in the area that know and admire them. The committee is well-known in the town and everybody tries to help them by buying their products.

The credit provided will be used for the purchase of products such as: clothing, cosmetics, fabrics, thread, elastic bands, sugar, oil, pasta, cereals, milk, and cutlery.
