Gorret Kibalama is the leader of a group of four women in Kampala, Uganda. She is 50 years old and married with six children, all of whom attend school. The community she lives in is urban. Although Gorret has a stall in the market, to increase sales she also conveys her merchandise by foot, selling to neighbors, people in markets, etc. Sometimes she has to sell on credit.

A veteran of more than seven loans, Gorret has been using the money for paying school fees, increasing stock and contributing to the welfare of the family.

She plans to open a boutique so she will no longer have to rely on walking from place to place to market her goods.

Update on Gorret

Entrepreneur: Gorret Kibalama`s Group
Location: Kampala, Uganda

A loan officer met with Gorret Kibalama last week and found out she is doing well, helping to support her family of six children, and ensuring all children are being educated.

Gorret says her business is doing well which is probably due to her work ethic; Gorret gets only 4-5 hours of sleep a night as she is committed to her work and her family. In her shop, she sees 2-3 customers a day, all of which are women. She goes by matatu (a shared van) into Kampala to get her supplies and makes the clothes in her shop in Rubaga Road a Mengo.

With her loans, Gorret can now buy food for her family and help her husband pay for school fees. In addition, Gorret has expanded her business so that she now has people that sell her clothes for her in the markets. Her favorite part of her business is designing the clothes for women and with the revenue from her business Gorret hopes to one day be able to buy a plot of land, build a house and own a cow. Gorret is thankful for the support of Kiva lenders!
