Update on Mao Khly

Entrepreneur: Mao Khly
Location: Siem Reap, Cambodia

When I went to Mao Khly’s house he was not home but his two grown daughters were and they gave me an update on how the business is doing. The daughters, Khly Sanom (20) and Khly Kannan (18) help with the business almost every day, as does their mother.

They used the loan to both buy more materials and purchase a new table saw, which allows them to work quicker and make a higher quality product. The family’s main product is making beds and their business is doing very well right now. Last month they were able to sell 20 beds at $17 a bed because they had a big order from town. They have been making beds for many years and the daughters said that her parents would like to continue doing so for the rest of their lives.

The daughters on the other hand said that while they do enjoy making beds, one day they would like to open up a small grocery store. This is something that they have always talked of and hope they will be able to do so in a few years.
