Aridaysi is a 28 year old woman who lives in the small community of Guaricanos, located on the outskirts of the capital of Santo Domingo. She lives with her husband and five children, and is taking out her first loan to start her own micro-business.

She plans to use the money to start a small business selling new clothing to her community members. In her community, Los Guaricanos, the majority of the people live very poorly, but there are a few who have enough money to buy new clothes and for that very reason she sees an opportunity to start a business to meet a need that often goes unmet. She says that she hopes in a few years her business will have done so well that she will be able to own her own store where people come to her for her clothes. For her family, she hopes to see her children become prepared professionals and responsible adults, and to one day in the near future buy a home they can call their own.

Although things can often be very challenging and trying, Aridaysi says that she knows she is hard working, and that this loan will help her achieve her dreams.

On behalf of everyone here at Esperanza International, and from Aridaysi herself, we thank you for your support with this micro loan!

Mujeres en Progreso Update

Entrepreneur: Mujeres En Progreso Group
Location: Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

This week I had the opportunity to catch up with a longtime member to Mujeres en Progreso to see how her loan cycle went. For the past 17 years, she has been selling Avon products by catalog and just joined up with Esperanza two loan cycles ago. When she took out this loan, she was able to buy many more products for her customers to buy since she had more initial capital to be able to afford to buy in higher quantities for better prices. During her time with Esperanza, she feels like she has become a better businesswoman. She has taken advantage of more of the "special offers" that the company offers to it's sellers which allows to gain even more money. She's used her earnings to feed her family (two older children and her husband) as well as fix her dining room table. In the future, she would like to make enough money to buy a stove for her house since cooking over an open fire is dangerous, complicated, and bad for one's health. She thanks you all for your support in her future!
