For these 8 women of Salelologa Sapulu on the island of Savaii, these are their first loans from SPBD. They all undertook 4 weeks of training on managing a business and maintaining a savings account, and then passed a written test on the SPBD principles: business, savings, weekly meetings, payments and group guarantee. Over the next 52 weeks, they will support each other in their individual business development and to guarantee on-time payments.

The women will use their loans for the following purposes:

Faimafili Mafi (44, married, 11 children) to purchase a fishing boat, a fishing net, goggles, and a spear for her fish business.

Iutita Smith (28, married) to purchase a sewing machine for her clothing business.

Eseta Salima (29, married, 2 children) to purchase a cooler, a box of cups, pesticides, a bag of sugar, and candy for her ice cake (ice cream) business.

Alofa Tautai Matafai (30, married, 3 children) to purchase timber, iron roofing, and cement to build her barber shop.

Sialia Tagiilima Fiame (59, married, 4 children) to purchase oil, a gas oven, large pots, and plastic cups for her popcorn and clothing businesses.

Fualole Aitu (26, married, 1 child) to purchase concentrate, sugar, plastic cups, candy, and a cooler for her ice cake business.

Faoliu M Stowers (43, single, 2 children) to purchase an oven, flour, sugar, pork, and other items for her pork and bread business.

Panou Monika (47, married, 5 children) to purchase sugar, flour, butter, eggs, yeast, and cement and timber to build her bakery which sells donuts, pork cakes and bread.
