She sells new clothing from a small store, and with the money from this loan she wants to buy a fresh supply of clothes to add to her store. In her free time she enjoys reading, and her favorite food is fish. She hopes that in the future she will see the Dominican economy get stronger and stronger.

This will be the 4th loan that “Ilusion” has applied for with Esperanza, and they all appreciate the support of Kiva lenders that has made this possible. On behalf of Esperanza, thank you for investing in the lives of these borrowers. The impact will be sustained far into the future!

An update about Ana Maldonado

Entrepreneur: Ilusion Group
Location: Samana, Dominican Republic

Hello!

My name is Nate Sooter, and I am writing to you on behalf of Ana Maldonado, who was the coordinator of the group Ilusion 5 here in Samaná, Dominican Republic. I apologize for the delay in getting you information! I recently had a chance to learn some information about Ana and about the results of her loan through Kiva and Esperanza International, and wanted to pass this information on to you.

Ana used the loan you gave her to buy extra clothing, and she augmented her sales to include selling what are called habichuelas dulces, which are a type of beans mixed in with sugar, cinnamon and other ingredients. She is very thankful for the loan, and it allowed her to help support her family – she currently has a son studying in a university in Santo Domingo, and both her daughters are married. She currently supports two nieces and a granddaughter in her house.

Ana used the extra income to find a new job – she is now a teacher at a local elementary school. She found business selling clothing to be slow, but is thankful for your loan to help her grow from selling clothing to finding a job teaching. The extra money from her business also allowed her to support two of her children’s aspirations to get a college education. This alone made the loan you gave very valuable to Ana and her family!

Ana is no longer with Esperanza, as she is now with an organization which works specifically to give loans to teachers here in the Dominican.

Again, thank you very much for your support of Ana – your loan truly made a difference for her and the others in her group.
