"It has always been my dream to have a stationary store," says Alma. She bought the store from another woman three years ago. The loans have been important to her since. She value the loans because they help her continue to keep the store stocked with items that people might need even when times are tough.

She is nervous about the "crisis"- the economic crisis. She knows that difficult times are ahead. As people pass her store, she can hear children ask their mom for a pencil but mom doesn't stop in for lack of resources.

She hasn't made her latest payment just yet. She will. She always has for the ten to eleven loans she has received from ADMIC. But January is difficult in all kinds of micro-businesses in Mexico. Taxes are due and people are exceptionally frugal after the expenses from the Christmas holidays. Her busiest times are in August when students go back to school.

ADMIC, the local Kiva partner, has been providing micro-loans and technical assistance for over thirty years throughout Mexico.
