These are the first loans from SPBD for these 11 women of Saasaai on the island of Savaii. They all undertook 4 weeks of training on managing a business and maintaining a savings account. They have passed a written test on the SPBD principles: business, savings, weekly meetings, payments and group guarantee. Over the next 52 weeks, they will support each other in their individual business development and in guaranteeing on-time payments.
The women will use their loans for the following purposes:

Faaoo Suisala (56, married, 4 children): to purchase paint, paint brushes, roll of material and designs to do Elei printing (a traditional Samoan way of fabric printing) and produce lavalava (wraparound skirt worn by men).

Fuamata Tuu (55, married, 5 children) to purchase 3 spools of wire and laborers to make a fence for her cattle farming.

Fuatia Sousou (41, married, 5 children), Seuao Faatoaga (42, married, 6 children) and Le Sefo (48, married, 6 children): each will purchase a weed killing sprayer, chemicals, bush knives, filings (knife sharpeners) and fertilizers to cultivate and sell taro, bananas and tuamu.

Luafalealii Petelo (46, married, 7 children) to purchase canned tuna fish, flour, a bag of rice, chicken legs, soap, sugar and milk to sell at her shop.

Nelly Alivale (70, married, 9 children) to purchase a weed killing sprayer, chemicals, knives, filings and fertilizers to cultivate and sell bananas, cucumbers, tomatoes and other vegetables.

Pelesepi Manase (25, married, 3 children) to purchase cement, metal, iron roofing and cooking ingredients to build a bakery and sell pies, donuts, biscuits and other baked goods.

Siauga Faatoe (24, married, 1 child) to purchase a weed killing sprayer, chemicals, bush knives, filings, spade, crowbar and fertilizers to cultivate and sell taro, bananas and tuamu.

Soo Fala (64, married, 3 children) to purchase a stove, flour, sugar, oil and baking powder to make chicken and pancakes (round lumps of fried bread).

Talai Iti (53, married, 2 children) purchase fertilizer, spade, filings, cabbage seeds, cucumber seeds, tomato seeds and a knife to grow vegetables.
