After four weeks of rigorous business training, these two women of Salelavalu Tai, from the island of Savaii, passed their written tests on the SPBD principles (business, savings, weekly meetings, payments and group guarantee) to ensure their first group loand from SPBD. Over the next year, they will support each other in their individual business endeavours to guarantee on-time payments.


Sulufaiga Lautala, 35, has 5 children and is married to an engineer. Her family has been involved in farming for many years. Specifically, she grows taro, bananas and other produce. For two days of the week, she sells themto the people in her village and during the rest of the week, she sells them to the other public. With her loan, she will purchase a weed killing sprayer, pesticides, three knives, a filing, two spades and three laborers. She expects to earn 100 Tala (~40 USD) per week in net cash flow.


Koreti Lega, 44, is married, with seven children. She has over five years experience with her shop where she sells donuts, snacks, drinks and other times 7 days per week. With her loan, she will purchase flour, sugar, oil, yeast, chicken legs, lamb ribs, butter and boxes of noodles. She expects to earn 200 Tala (~80 USD) per week in net cash flow.
