For these 6 women of Taga 2 on the island of Savaii, these are their first loans from SPBD. They all undertook 4 weeks of training on managing a business, maintaining a savings account and then passed a written test on the SPBD principles: business, savings, weekly meetings, payments and group guarantee. Over the next 52 weeks, they will support each other in their individual business development and to guarantee on-time payments.

Faasee Silimoli, 56, is married to a farmer and has 4 children. Elisapeta Isaia, 26, is married with 2 children. With their loans, they will purchase 2 weed killing sprayers, pesticides, 2 bush knives, an axe, a knife filing and a wheel barrow to support their year-old vegetable businesses. On their plantation, both of their husbands farm taro, bananas and yams, staples of the Samoan diet.

Mafutaga Talisoa, 34, is married with 4 children. She wishes to produce cream buns and sell them at her food stall in Taga. Her husband is a good baker. With her loan, she will purchase flour, sugar, oil, yeast, baking pans and other ingredients. Her main customers are school children and the village people.

Luaipou Isitolo, 29, is married with 4 children. Her husband is a plantation farmer. She plans to sell a wide variety of produce: cabbages, tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, etc. to village people, the public and passing traffic. She will use her loan to purchase cabbage seeds, a hose and laborers.

Tapaga Leaupepe, 35, is married with 5 children. Her business is selling coconuts. The bulk of her loan will be used for delivery costs, the costs of labor and food for the laborers. Additionally, she will purchase a wheel barrow. She will sell coconuts 6 days a week at affordable prices.

Meli Faatafea, 52, is married to a farmer and has 3 children. She is in the business of both selling produce (taro, bananas, etc.) and raising chickens. Her loan will allow her to purchase a weed killing sprayer, a knife, pesticides, filing and laborers.
