For these 8 women of Mosula Satupaitea on the island of Savaii, these are their first loans from SPBD. They all undertook 4 weeks of training on managing a business, maintaining a savings account and then passed a written test on the SPBD principles: business, savings, weekly meetings, payments and group guarantee. Over the next 52 weeks, they will support each other in their individual business development and to guarantee on-time payments. The loans disbursed to the women will be used for the following purposes:

Asoleaga Ioane (39, married, 6 children): purchase fishing equipment to catch and sell fish and sea cucumbers.

Atafasia Gray (45, married, 8 children): purchase flour, sugar, butter and yeast to bake and sell pork cake (lumps of dough with pork in the center), donuts and snacks.

Liga Siaosi (43, married, 5 children): purchase a weed-killing sprayer, fertilizer, knife, filing (sharpener) and chemicals to harvest and sell cabbages, taro and tomatoes.

Matuu Iuli (37, married, 6 children): purchase a box of noodles, a sack of sugar, a lantern, boots and a fishing spear to sell snacks, donuts and ice cakes (ice cream) and fish.

Nuanona Lautaf (29, married, 2 children): purchase a sewing machine, fabric, pesticides and fertilizer to make T-shirts and to grow vegetables.

Seilagi Lepa (53, married, 7 children): purchase a weed-killing sprayer, 4 bush knives, pesticides and fertilizer to grow and sell taro.

Sita Semu (51, married, 7 children): purchase a box of noodles, candy, sugar, a dozen eggs and pork cakes to make and sell snacks, ice cakes and eggs.

Sivake Oti (42, married, 4 children): purchase a fishing net, a weed-killing sprayer and fishing line to both grow taro and to fish.
