Loan Update

Entrepreneur: Ny Nin
Location: Prey Veng Province, Cambodia

Ny Nin, 29, lives with her husband and three children in Prey Veng, Cambodia. Ny is a farmer, and her husband deals rice. At the time of loan disbursal, they earned $3 and $5 a day respectively. Ny requested a loan so her husband could purchase rice in bulk to save money.

A CREDIT MFI loan officer recently visited Ny to check on her progress. After receiving her loan, Ny used the money to purchase more ducks to raise (and did not purchase bulk rice). She sells the eggs at the market, and is able to earn $2 more than she did before. She uses the extra income to purchase duck feed, medicines, and to buy better supplies for the family.

However, Ny has had some difficulties with her new business. During the rainy season, the ducks do not lay many eggs. In addition, the ducks often fall ill, the price of duck feed is rising, and the price of eggs remains low. Still, she is optimistic and hopes her husband can change businesses and become a construction worker in the capital, Phnom Penh, where he could earn more money building houses.
