For Arturo, it all began with his move to one of the new districts in Lima, Carabayllo. When he arrived to set up home in the area, few people lived there, and therefore business was at a minimum. Seeing that so many of his neighbours, just like him, had to walk quite a way before finding any shops, he decided to open up his own small shop. Little by little, and with a lot of hard work, Arturo improved his shop and invested in it until he was able to supply groceries, fruit and veg. He confirms that it was very hard to start with, and accessing his house was difficult for suppliers. And so he had to carry goods from the road to his house. But he chose not to give up despite this problem, he felt that the advantages of the business were not only for him but also for the community. Today, in addition to running his store, construction of his drinks area is in progress.

Para Arturo todo empezó con su mudanza a uno de los nuevos distritos de Lima, Carabayllo. Cuando él llegó a vivir en esta zona, los habitantes eran muy pocos, por ello, la presencia de comercio era mínima. Al ver que tanto sus vecinos como él debían caminar varias cuadras antes de encontrar una tienda, se animo a poner una pequeña.

Fue así que poco a poco y con mucho esfuerzo Arturo fue mejorando su tienda e invirtiendo en ella hasta abastecerla de abarrotes, frutas y verduras. El afirma que le fue muy difícil al inicio, ya que el acceso a su casa no era muy fácil para los proveedores. Entonces el debía cargar la mercadería desde la carretera hasta su casa. Pero él no desistió al ver este problema, pues el sentía que la ganancia no solo era para el sino que también para la comunidad.

En la actualidad, además de manejar su bodega, la construcción de su distribuidora de gas y cerveza está en camino.

Update on your loan administered by Kiva Field Partner EDAPROSPO Entrepreneur: Arturo Narváez Berdiales Location: Carabayllo-lima, Peru During a routine audit of Field Partner EDAPROSPO, Kiva discovered a number of discrepancies between the information posted to the Kiva website and what actually occurred on the ground. Specifically, many loans uploaded to the website before December 2008 contain inaccurate loan amounts, terms and/or loan uses. This is in violation of Kiva policy, and as such, as soon as we were alerted to a possible violation we placed EDAPROSPO on "pause." After placing them on pause, Kiva proceeded to execute a complete verification of every loan EDAPROSPO posted to the Kiva website; in total we examined 757 loans. As a result of our audit, we have discovered that 52% of the loans posted to the Kiva website by field partner EDAPROSPO contain data inaccuracies. 98% of these inaccuracies pertain to loans posted to the Kiva website before December 2008, when EDAPROSPO was under a different management team. After significant management turnover at the end of 2008, almost all loans on the Kiva website contain complete and accurate information and these loans comprise only 2% of the total discovered inaccuracies. You are receiving this email as we wanted to alert you that, after our verification efforts, Kiva cannot confirm that the specific loan you funded was actually disbursed. We can, however, confirm that the person you lent to is an EDAPROSPO borrower. Because EDAPROSPO has decided to guarantee all loans made on Kiva, you have continued to receive repayments on schedule. Because the new management team has proven that they are committed to providing accurate and transparent information to the Kiva website, and because they have repaid almost all of the inaccurate loans on-time, Kiva has decided to re-open the Kiva-EDAPROSPO relationship. During this new "pilot" phase on Kiva, we will be working closely with the new EDAPROSPO team, including their internal and external auditors, to continually verify new EDAPROSPO loans posted to Kiva, and if we are alerted to any new inaccuracies we will pause their relationship with Kiva and follow-up accordingly.
