Marietta Nzisa is 30 years old. She’s married with one child and expecting her second in February, 2008.
She has a cyber cafe that provides internet and photocopying services. She started her business in 2006 after completing a computer course at a technical college. She approached her mother for a loan to start her own business because she did not like to ask her mother for money to buy things like creams and other personal items. Her mother loaned her 80,000 Kenyan Shillings, which Marietta use to buy three computers and rent a stall at Kasarani a town on the outskirts of Nairobi.

Due to the popularity and demand of computer services, Marietta has a growing number of customers and wants to add more computers. Currently, her loyal customers must wait 30 minutes to access a computer. The wait sometimes makes customers leave and this pains Marietta greatly. She is therefore requesting a loan of 80,000 Kenyan Shillings ($1150.00) to purchase three brand new computers. This will be a landmark for Marietta because she will then be able to provide quick and efficient service. She will also train at least one student in a computer course. Students will save by training in her business because they will not have to travel all the way into town.

Marietta thanks the Kiva lenders in advance. The repayment period for this loan is 10-12 months.

More services for her clients, more employees added

Entrepreneur: Marieta Nzisa Mutuku
Location: Kasarani,nairobi, Kenya

When we visited Marietta, we found her at her internet café, very busy and dealing with many clients. In between assisting clients (we did not want to take her away from her work) she explained to us that her Kiva loan allowed her to purchase computers and other equipment so that her customers can do everything they need at her shop: browse the internet, scan pictures, or make copies.

Marietta also added 2 employees to her shop, as the business is now turning a profit each month. She would like to open another internet café where she would also sell mobile phones and SIM cards.
