Update on Samorn Moeun

Entrepreneur: Samorn Moeun
Location: Khsach Kandal District, Cambodia

Mrs. Samorn has been a silk weaver since 1986. In February, 2008 she requested a loan of $600 to purchase silk material, sewing thread, fees for selecting and preparing silk on the loom.

In the past, when Samorn couldn’t afford to borrow money, she bought thread for weaving from the middleman on credit which was more expensive than the market price. Now, she has enough cash to purchase those thread because she is able to receive the loan. So, the material is around $5 cheaper.

Mrs. Samorn is able to increase the profit margins due to low cost of production. On the other hand, Samon’s husband makes his own income by selling his vegetable such as tomatoes, wax gourds, papaya, and eggplants. Samorn’s living standard is really growing up.
