Born January 14, 1949 in Lomé (Golfe prefecture) Ms. Akoélé LAWSON is a married mother of four children. Her husband, a motorcycle taxi driver, became alcoholic after facing hardship and does not contribute to the family’s income. Ms. LAWSON is thus responsible for all of the household income, which she has difficulty in earning with her business of selling chickens at the market in Bè. She has been in this business for 10 years, doing quite well despite the fact that she is illiterate. She has received two loans which were regularly repaid without incident.

Today she is requesting a new loan of $800 which will allow her to buy chickens and to go herself to villages to buy them. This loan will increase the size of her business and will help her lift her family out of extreme poverty.
