Don Juan is a producer with more than 26 years of experience. He lives in the municipality of Ríos, a community that offers fertile soil and hills that are used for the most part to cultivate pineapple, dragon fruit, coffee, platano bananas and vegetables, among other products that are supplied by the national markets in the city of Managua.

Mr. Don Juan cultivates pineapple and dragon fruit on the majortiy of his land, with the support of his eldest sons who know the harvesting process for these fruits. Each process of this type of work requires hard and technical manual labor , which his sons already know with perfection. In reality the plantations present difficulties for him to change his cultivations, due to a lack of economic resources to count on. The majority of the pineapple seeds that he poses is from five years ago, which does not provide a satisfactory product for his customers who purchase and consume them. Mr. Don Juan is asking for a loan in order to swo new pineapple and to obtain a better product for future commerce. With this investment in the harvesting of pineapple, he will improve his production and will then be able to increase his store and extend into new borders.

Entrepreneur: Juan Pablo Aguirre Ortiz
Location: Managua, Nicaragua

Happy Valentine Weekend! My name is Amanda and will be the voice of this progress report; I work for Afodenic the organization that loan to Juan Pablo.

Thank to Kiva and Afodenic (the MFI that loans to Juan Pablo) Juan Pablo has been able to improve his crops. He has been working on the land he inherited from his father for the past 20 years. With the Kiva loan through Afodenic he has been able to buy poison to protect his crops and fertilizer to produce a better quality harvest, with pineapple being his strongest product. Juan Pablo will keep on working hard to increase his production, and wishes to request a new loan in the future so he can use an acre to grow pitahaya and further diversify his products.
