Juana lives in the community of San Caralampio, in the municipality of Ticuantepe. It is a mountainous rural area that has a cool climate that is good for producing citrus crops. The land is fertile and good for pineapple, and other conditions of area are also favorable for it production. It was 30 years ago that Juana decided to start cultivating pineapple and citrus crops, such as tangerines, oranges, and limes.

She and her husband both work the land and through the years they have been perfecting their techniques for the cultivation of these crops. Now Juana is requesting a loan to invest in maintaining her plants and trees. She needs to buy fertilizer and soil amendments to improve her harvest and also insecticides and fungicides to prevent problems with insects and fungi that could damage the plants.

Update from Nicaragua

Entrepreneur: Juana Maria Calero
Location: Managua, Nicaragua

Juana Maria Calero is a farmer and her motive to solicit a micro-loan was to offer more of the necessary support to her crop of pineapples. Using the credit she was able to offer fertilizers such as foliaries, urea and fungicides. The results were good and Juana believes that without the support she would not have had such a healthy and large harvest. In the future she plans on soliciting more credit. She would also recommend it to others because, as a result of the interest rate, it is the fairest form of credit.
