Ruth and Maria have been members of the “Triunfo” community bank for four months. In the community bank, they have learned values, such as saving and working together. They commented that they feel united and know they have support within the bank.

Ruth is 21 years old. She lives with her partner and is expecting her first child. Ruth has been selling clothing for eight months. She travels nine hours to the city of Lima to sell the clothing to her friends and family.

Maria is 36 years old. She is a widow and has two children, who are ages eight and eleven. Maria sells a variety of seasonal products. For example, during the festival season, she sells face paint and decorations. Now she is planning to travel to Lima to buy school supplies to prepare for the school season.

Ruth and Maria need loans of 400 and 1000 soles respectively, which they will invest in buying shirts, pants, paint, pens, pencils, and notebooks.

One of the key aspects of the community bank is the interest-earning savings account each associate has. Ruth and Maria plan to use their savings to improve their business, study a specialty, and buy a house. Their dreams are to eventually finish their own studies, pay for their children’s education, and hope that their businesses will continue to grow.

María Antonieta and Ruth

Entrepreneur: Ruth Viviana Reimundiz Rua's Group
Location: Ayacucho, Peru

María Antonieta and Ruth Reimundis have been members of Banco Comunal Triunfo for one year. María is a 36 year old widow with two children and Ruth Reimundis is 21 years old with a month old baby.

The two women have different businesses for which they use their loans from Finca. María´s has a bookstore that she has been running for two years while Ruth has a business of selling clothes by going to people´s houses. Maria´s last loan was 1000 soles which she used to buy more books in order to add to the selection in her bookstore and help grow her business.

Ruth´s last loan was of 400 soles which she used to buy more clothes to add to her inventory, and give more options to her customers. The two women have learned several valuable things in their time with Finca such as how to be more responsible both in their homes and at their businesses, as well as how important it is to have some savings. They have also learned several things that have helped them to run their businesses more efficiently—such as how to select the best products to sell, to pay attention to customers and treat them with respect, as well as several other valuable lessons. The women are also grateful for the values they have learned from Finca – they practice them in their homes in order to set a good example for their children.
