Ayoa Nakisige is a 35-year-old mother of four children in Kamuli, Uganda. She runs a small pharmacy, while her husband is a teacher. Ayoa hopes to expand her business; with the extra profits, she plans on meeting basic needs, such as home repairs, mandatory school fees for her children, and clothing.

Ayoa has applied for a loan of $1,300 U.S. dollars along with four other women. Ayoa has taken out a loan before and paid it back on time, so she is confident that she will be able to repay this one as well. In this type of group loan, the money is divided among each woman to invest in her own business. They guarantee each other's loans, so that if one woman can't repay it, the others will cover her share. Fidah Mulaba has a business in charcoal selling and wants to expand it, while Lydia Awuuba hopes to buy a fridge for her bar. Asiya Nabirye grows matooke, or green bananas (a popular food stape in Uganda), and wants to buy more supplies to plant more crops. Lastly, Ayoa Ngobi wishes to buy more stock for her food-selling shop.
