The leader of this small group is Esther Naizuri. She is currently in the business of charcoal selling and is requesting a loan to expand her charcoal business. Esther is 48 years old and is married with a husband who is a businessman. She has 5 children ranging in age from 5 to 18 and her children go to school. Each week, Esther makes approximately UGX 50000 (US$29.00) in profits and, with the extra profits from her loan, she hopes to be able to pay rent for the charcoal store and school fees for the children. Esther took a loan from BRAC Uganda before in the amount of UGX 500000 (US$291.00) to invest in her business and the loan was paid back on time.

Esther is joined in her small group by Christine Sakwa, Margret Nanyanzi and Betty Akello. Christine Sakwa owns a small hotel and wants to buy more furniture and hotel equipment. Margret Nanyanzi currently sells matooke (plantain) and wants a loan to increase her stock. Betty Akello sells charcoal and wants to expand her business.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.
