Birungi Judith has a retail shop in the trading centre of Kigongo in Ibanda district. The shop sells sugar, soap, cooking oil, Vaseline and other confectioneries and on top of that operates as a bar mostly in the evenings after people are tired from a long day’s work. She has plastic chairs and tables that she uses in her bar just outside her shop for customers to sit and enjoy a cold beer, soda, wine, spirit or water. This greatly improved her shop because before this inventory, she could stock the drinks for a long time; but now people come in plenty for the drinks. On a crate of beer or soda, the profit is half its price which is good business, considering the high rate at which most Ugandans drink. She intends to start roasting beef, chicken and goat’s meat for the customers and passers by and hopes more money will come in. However her dream is to see a wholesale shop instead of a retail shop that she owns today, as she continues with the bar.
