Mambo Kwisha Group

It has been disbursed to the Mambo Kwisha Group, consisting of Betty Namyalo, Janat Kidaaga, Agnes Nalubwama, Madiina Nakibuuka, Jovia Nakimbugwe, Mumbejja Ssekakoni, Night Nambooze, Faridah Mulimira, Scolastic Nagitta, Alaisha Nakanwagi, Norah Nambi, Yudaaya Nalubega, Annet Namugera, Mastulah Namatovu by Pearl Microfinance Limited in Uganda. We are excited to watch this business grow. Over the next 4 months, Pearl Microfinance Limited will be collecting repayments from this entrepreneur and posting progress updates on the Kiva website.

When I met Betty (the chairperson of this group) this morning she was delighed to see me and take her to see her restaurant (around the corner from the place where her lending group's meeting was taking place). She works incredibly long hours - 7am to 11pm every day, 7 days a week. She has been working this schedule for 20 years now.

With the money from her latest loan she bought new saucepans, plates and a water tap and has also painted the restaurant blue. She can now serve around 30 customers every day giving her a daily profit of US$23. She is happy with her new loans from PEARL as they are 10% less per annum than her previous microfinance bank. She cares for 9 children including her 3 year old grandson who is orphaned. Her life has improved since she has been borrowing money as she has been able to improve her home and is able to pay all the school fees of the children in her care.
