Sonia, Catalina, and Visitacion are members of the community bank “Universo”. Sonia joined 8 months ago. Catalina and Visitacion have been members for 14, and 6 years respectively. In that time they have learned to save, and manage their money effectively. In addition they have learned that they have value as women and can move up in the world through their own power.


Sonia is 28 and has one child. She has owned an internet café for one year. She started with five computers and now has eight, but hopes to continue expanding. She also has a small grocery store, which she has owned for several years, but focuses on the internet café.


Catalina is 42 and has two children. She sells snacks and prepared food from a stand in the central market. She is also a weaver. She has been weaving for 10 years and sends her finished products to Lima.


Visitacion is 56 and has three adult children. She travels to Lima or the city of Huancayo to buy clothing that she then sells in the city of Aycucho. She has been doing this for eight years.

Catalina, Sonia y Visitación son socias del Banco Comunal Universo.

Catalina es casada, tiene 42 años y 2 hijos, Catalina vende comida en el mercado Nery García, además realiza trabajos en telar como pasadizos, tapices que vende en los mercados de la ciudad de Ayacucho y algunas veces en la ciudad de Lima, sus ventas mejoraron por la llegada de turistas por semana santa. Catalina obtuvo un préstamo de 400 soles, dinero que fue invertido en la compra de 20 kilos de lana a 5 soles el kilo, tintes y alwi.

Por otro lado Sonia es conviviente, tiene 29 años y 1 hijo, Sonia tiene cabinas de Internet en su casa, además tiene una tienda surtida de abarrotes, sus ventas se mantuvieron por la alza de los precios, Sonia obtuvo un préstamo de 800 soles, dinero que fue invertido en la compra de impresora a 400 soles, cámaras a 50 soles cada uno y para el mantenimiento de las maquinas.

Mientras que Visitación es viuda, tiene 55 años y 3 hijos, Visitación vende ropas a pedido que reparte a amigos y familiares, en los últimos meses ha surtido con más prendas. Visitación obtuvo un préstamo de 400 soles, dinero que fue invertido en la compra de blusas y ropas interiores.
