The saying “start small and grow up, start big and blow up” is the guiding principle for Kayiwa Jamil. He started producing animal feed ten years ago and has never turned back. He processes cattle and chicken feed out of maize husks, small fish, cow bones and snail shells. He has a milling machine and a mixer which he uses to produce the feed. In a day, he produces 20 bags, which in most cases are already ordered by clients.

Jamil got the idea of starting a business when he was working with UGACHICK, a local breeding and animal feed processing plant in Kampala.

Kayiwa and his wife are blessed with 5 children whom they provide with all the necessities of life. Kayiwa is 39 years of age and hopes to erect a commercial building in Lugazi Town before he is 45 years. He is an honest person and delivers all orders as requested. This has led to an increased number of customers. The business is growing very fast, thus the need for more funding.

These days rearing chicken is an expensive job because of the high cost of chicken feeds; and so Jamil also charges according to the demand. He makes maize flour, chicken feeds and coffee seed husks himself for sale as well as making for customers that have their orders. In a week, Jamil is able to make profits worth $118 and he has been so good with his loan repayments. He uses the loans he gets to buy maize, small fish, and shells that he uses in his businesses. He is so grateful to the loans because they have supported him and his family so much.
