Mrs Cetty belongs to the Community Bank Cesar Vallejo, located at Jr. Bolognesi #199, in the district of Calleria, department of Ucayali.

Cetty is 49 years old, she is separated from her husband and has 8 children, 5 of which are already self-sufficient and 3 that still depend on her.

Cetty received a first loan of 300 S (100USD) from the non-profit association “Manuela Ramos”. She invested this money on a small groceries store, which is nowadays very well supplied.

Cetty wakes up every morning at 6am to prepare her children’s breakfast; at 8am she starts working at the groceries store and she finishes at 8pm.

She would like to receive a loan of 2000 S (700USD) that she will repay in 5 months. With this money, she will buy 1 bag of rice, 1 bag of sugar, 2 boxes of eggs, 1 box of milk, 2 boxes of jello, 1 pack of yoghurt, 2 banana branches, fish and chicken.

Cetty is a very hard working woman and even though she does not have the support from her couple, she does not think this is a handicap to succeed.

Thanks to the loan she received from “Manuela Ramos” she could start her own business and show that she could move up in life and contribute to the education of her children and the wellbeing of all her family.

Thriving in 9 de Octubre, Pucallpa

Entrepreneur: Cetty Saldaña De Salas
Location: Callería - Ucayali, Peru

Cetty Saldaña de Salas owns a bodega in the 9 de Octubre district of Pucallpa, Peru. She has eight children: three still live with her in her house, the other five are married adults who now live in their own households. Cetty is a shy, quiet woman but when she talks about her business she gestures proudly at the display cases and refrigeration machines she’s been able to purchase using her Manuela Ramos/Kiva loans.

Cetty has been a member of the Cesar Vallejo communal bank for nine years. Her bodega was much smaller when Cetty joined Manuela Ramos as a founding member of her group. Through her loans she has been able to grow her business significantly. Most recently, she was able to purchase a large industrial refrigerator from which she sells ice to her clients. Cetty also offers rice, sugar, canned foods and sodas from her store. She is pictured above next to an empty display case in her bodega. She explains that in the mornings it is filled with fresh bread, but today she has already sold it all.
