Mambo (Greetings!) from Tanzania and from SELFINA! Thank you for your loan through Kiva to Emmaus Kyungu, a SELFINA client and micro-entrepreneur. The purpose of this journal is to update you on Emmaus and the status of her business.

As you know, your generosity helped Emmaus obtain a loan of $525. She is running a grocery business and a hair salon and used the loan to purchase maharage (beans), wali (rice), beer, and soda for her grocery store as well as hair, weaves, and wigs for her hair salon. She works at her business for 5 to 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. Three employees assist her at her businesses. Since she took out the loan, her business has been doing very well and Emmaus’ monthly profits have increased from approximately $150. She has used these extra profits to successfully repay her loan as well as make improvements to her house.

In the future, she is planning to request a loan from SELFINA with which she plans to open another business. SELFINA aims to continue to assist Emmaus and other women like her, and empower them towards financial security and increased confidence through microloans. Thank you very much for supporting Emmaus!
