Jolly is the chairperson of the Nyakabare B Tutungukte Lending Group in the countryside outside of Ntungamo. The region around Ntungamo is knowns for its stunning beauty. The drive to the lending group is on a rutted road going through dense groves of matooke, coffee and lush green hills. The lending group meets in one of the homes of the owners. From this hilltop you can see neighboring Tanzania. Meeting at night, there is no electricity and the only light is from paraffin lanterns, lighting the homes of villagers across the valley. The sky is ablaze with stars.

Jolly and her husband have six children and own a wholesale business in which they sack beans, peas and millet in 50kg to 100kg sacks. In this area of Uganda, most people are subsistence farmers. Any extra food grown is sacked and sent to markets. In most retail stores you will see 4-6 of these sacks in front of the counter. Jolly and her husband have been in business for 10 years and have been members of their lending group for the past four years. They plan to use her loan to modernize their farm.

Entrepreneur: Jolly Magezi's Group
Location: Ntungamo, Uganda

Jolly Magezi works together with her husband in their businesses and in fact he is proud that she is the chairperson of her lending group. Once she gets a loan, they use it together to improve on their farm that yields high quality produce for stocking in their wholesale shop. This does not stop them from buying produce from other farmers once they don’t have enough for the store. At times like once or twice a month, they load a truck of produce to be supplied to customers in Kampala. Right now, they have a banana plantation that has started giving out yields and by end of August; the supply will be down hence a high demand for their green bananas.
