Mrs. Dionicia Patiño, founder of the group, got in conctact with her neighboring colleagues, who quickly demonstrated interest in the “Comité de Mujeres Emprendedoras” program. All members belong to the “Cabañas de Caacupé” company, and the name of their group is “Sacrado Corazón de Jesús” (Sacred Heart of Jesus). We can observe 14 of the 16 members in this photo (two are not shown because they were not able to attend the meeting due to their prior work commitments ).

The majority of the committee members work in the cultivation and sales of plants and flowers for a living; other members own mini markets that sell flour, milk, sugar, fruits, and vegetables, while still other members operate fast-food, candy, and soft drink stands.

All members of the group receive an average of $150.00 USD, which they each use in order to improve their aforementioned business affairs.

The committee has carried out several activities with the aim of helping their community, such as the renovation of sidewalks in their neighborhood, festivals that benefit the sick, and other charitable activities.

They are requesting a loan in order to purchase more merchandise for their different businesses, such as seeds, fertilizer, meat, rice, flour, canned goods, soft drinks, fruits, and vegetables, among other things.

Translated from Spanish by Elizabeth Casian, Kiva Volunteer.
