Bawala has operated a canteen, or small grocery store, for the past seven years. As I have written dozens of stories about these type of stores, I wanted to take a moment to talk about the wonderful people who operate them. Balwala is one of so many who have enrichened my life with their warm personalities and welcoming ways. I have traveled extensively and the people of Uganda are some of the most welcoming people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Bawala is a delight. She is married with 8 children. Since her business is like so many others, it is her personality that brings her a strong clientele and sets her store apart. Bawala radiates warmth and caring and is a strong leader in her village. With her loan she will add more staple foods to her store.

Journal Entrepreneur: Bawala Mwajuma Location: Naalya, Uganda Bawala is only thankful for the loans because without them, she would be no where but now she can have some pocket money for restocking her store, putting food on the table and above all repaying the loan promptly as she remains in business; a case that was not before. Infact her success is enticing other women to join lending groups in her village.
