Mrs. Tha Phoury, 40, and her husband, Mr. Teav Tean, 43, have been married since 1990. They have no children. Phoury and her family are living on an island of the Mekong River about twenty kilometers from Phnom Penh. Phoury has been a silk weaver since she was 16 years old. It's a skill she learned from her mother. Her husband learned to weave silk from her in 1993 and stared weaving silk in the same year. Now, he is a good silk weaver.

Phoury is requesting her fifth loan from MAXIMA in the amount of $200. She will use this loan to purchase silk materials, sewing thread, and to pay for the preparation of her husband’s loom.

Update on Phoury Tha Entrepreneur: Phoury Tha Location: Muk Kampoul District, Cambodia Mrs. Phoury is a weaver and she also taught her husband to weave in 1993. So, Phoury’s husband is a weaver as well as a teacher at a primary school in the village. In December, 2007 Phoury requested a loan of $200 to purchase silk materials, sewing thread, and to pay for the preparation of her husband’s loom. After funding from loan, Phoury’s husband weaves silk after teaching at school and he could generate some more income to support the family. Soon after, the family wanted to move house to live near their parents, so the family stopped to weave for a while to prepare everything for moving. However, their payment the principal and interest will not find any problem because the couple has saved some money and Phoury’s husband has salary from teaching in the primary school to pay back the principal and interest during two or three months. Phoury and her husband will resume weaving again soon.
