Surita is a married mother of 44 years of age. Her family has lived on their taro plantation for years. She heard of SPBD through some village women and she was very happy to join. Through her loans she has managed to improve many things in her home. Surita is planning to have her own small market in her village so she can sell many other crops and improve her vegetable garden.

Surita Sua is 59 years old and has 11 children. She is a member of Nofoalii 2 center which is located in nothern/eastern Upolu island. She has Plantation business, which she has been engaged in for 5 years. The loan officer who is in charge of her center says Surita is a very good member. She repays her loan on time, always attends her weekly meetings, and is enthusiastic about expanding her business.

She has used her previous loan to purchase bush knives, weed killer and home improvement . She says her business is doing well. On good days she makes $375 Tala a day (1Tala=0.4USD) and on bad days she makes $145 Tala a day. She also says that the Kiva loans and SPBD loans are not only helping her business grows, but also helping her pay her children’s school fees, feed her family better, and improve her housing.

When asked if she has any words to the Kiva lenders, she said “A former client of SPBD, Surita Sua left the programme after her first loan as she is doing well and is able to sustain her own business from the profits she is making. She now rest for while but she can reaply if she need Financial support from SPBD.”
