Monica is an awesome lady. She is a widowed mother of three beautiful children. She joined Life in Africa in 2003 and is now the WE Center Manager. She is loved and respected by all who work with her.

5 years ago, Monica's husband died of injuries he suffered in a trucking accident. After he died, his family came and claimed all his property, including their family home, leaving Monica and her children left on the street to start life over from scratch. This sort of thing happens far too often in Uganda and there was nothing legal that Monica could do. When she found her way to Life in Af-rica she was destitute, but realized that she could learn new skills that might improve her situation.

Monica learned quickly and worked hard. She is now the Manager of the Life in Africa WE Center and earns a steady income. Her children are all in school and their lives have greatly improved. But they still have no home to call their own, and this is a painful memory for the whole family. Monica feels it's important to give her children a home that no one can take away from them or evict them from.

She has sold some property her family owned in her village and has managed to buy a plot of land in Kireka on the outskirts of Kampala. Here she plans to build a solid family home. She has carefully planned and the project will be completed in three years using money she saves from her salary and a series of loans. The total budget for the house she wishes to build is shs. 13,000,000 ($7220).

She is seeking a loan in the amount of shs 800,000 ($475) for the first phase. This will build the foundation of the house. Once this loan is repaid, she will start on the next phase and continue until the house is built. The loan she is requesting will enable her to buy: hard core stones, bricks, sand, and cement, all for laying the foundation of the house.

Based on her current income, Monica can repay this loan in 12 months. She has designated 1/4 of the interest she pays on her loan to support Life in Africa's Internet4Change training program.

Monica has actually been one of the luckiest member of LiA. after getting the loan,She joined Outside The dream,an NGO based in Uganda and helping children. This new job saw her into a new income which enabled her to go forth with her phase two of the project. Monica now lives in her own house in the suburb of Kampala This house was partly sponsored by the kiva loans . Initially Monica paid very well ,until the transition period that affected everyone at LIA. It's however hard to understand her slow payment at the end of it all , because at this point she had her constant monthly income. She managed to complete her loan last month and is very grateful to her lenders for they have made her achieve her dreams.
