Mrs. Am Sokhum (age 49) is a widow with six children; four sons and two daughters. One of her children has been married and is living in a different house. The other five are living under her custody, four of which are working in garment factory, and the other one stays at home. Sokhum’s home is along National Road number Five about thirty kilometers from Phnom Penh. She is in the business of a grocery store and selling vegetables at her house since 2004. She buys grocery items from the market in Phnom Penh and vegetables from her village for reselling at her store. She and her children work hard to save some money to build new house. After getting loans from Maxima many times, her life is getting better and better.

Now she is requesting her fourth loan from MAXIMA in the amount of $1000. She will use this loan to expand her grocery store.

Update on Sokhun Am Entrepreneur: Sokhun Am Location: Pon-nhea Leu District, Cambodia Mrs. Sokhum is a grocery seller. She requested a loan of $1,000 in December, 2007 to expand her grocery store. She has bought two more merchandise stands and a small container to carry grocery items. So in that way she could purchase variety of grocery items to sell and attract more customers. She managed to save some money from her business to fill up the land in the front yard of the house which sometimes flooded during rainy season. Her living standard is expected to be increase due to income from her store. As a result, she has enough money to spend for daily activities especially food and supporting the children to school and she also plans to repair the house where is living. She is asking for the loan again at the end of the term.
