Business Update

Entrepreneur: Sanu Maharjan
Location: Thecho, Nepal

With the help of her Kiva loan, Ms. Maharjan has purchased 200 new chickens for her poultry farm.

Each chicken cost Ms. Maharjan Rs. 35 (USD $0.52). She will raise the chickens over the next 4-6 months before selling them at market. Once fully grown, these chickens will fetch about Rs. 150 (USD $2.23) per kilogram. With careful management, Ms. Maharjan hopes to make a substantial profit on her investment.

Ms. Maharjan’s children are also doing well and are now studying in classes 8 and 3.

She plans to raise these chickens to full maturity, but then invest the money in a new business.
