Journal Update for Narah Sesay

Entrepreneur: Narah Sesay
Location: Magburaka, Tonkolili, Sierra Leone

Dear Kiva Lenders:

Over the course of my 10-week Kiva Fellowship in Sierra Leone, I traveled to the town of Magburaka on several occasions in hopes of meeting your Kiva Borrower, Ms. Narah Sesay, for an interview about her business and the impact her Kiva loan has had on her life. Unfortunately, upon each visit to Magburaka, Narah is out of town on business either purchasing more goods to sell or selling in a market in a distant location. While I was not able to interview her during my time here and a journal update for her is long overdue, I wanted to give you at least some information on Narah that you might find interesting.

What I have for you is a simple analysis of her financial situation over the course of her three loan cycles with Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT). I have produced a chart with Narah’s monthly sales, expense and net income figures during her time with SMT. The net income is the amount of discretionary income Narah can bring home to her family generated from her business. As you can see in Narah’s case, her net income has risen gradually over the past two or three years with SMT. The impact of the microloan program on Narah’s life is evident.

Please accept my apology for not being able to catch Narah for a 1-on-1 interview about her life and business during my Kiva Fellowship. We’ll probably see Narah requesting a new loan on Kiva in the near future. Thank you for supporting Narah and her dreams and aspirations.

Source: SMT MIS files. Currency conversion at time of analysis = 3000 Leones per $1 USD
