The latest news from Kandal Steung

Entrepreneur: Doeun Phat
Location: Kandal Steung District, Cambodia

Doen Phat took a few minutes break from work today to share with us how her loan is progressing. She has wonderful news about the positive impacts her $600 loan with Kiva and MAXIMA, Kiva’s local field partner, have had on both her business and her family.

Doen runs a business buying a variety of vegetables and fish from the nearby Ta Khmao market and sells them to local villagers. With her loan from Kiva she was able to purchase more and a wider variety of vegetables to sell. Her investment has proven worthwhile, as she is able to now sell more goods and has more than doubled her former profit of $15 per day.

With the increased income, Doen has been able to comfortable support her family’s day-to-day expenses, repay her loan with no difficulty, and afford her children’s school fees. Two of her children are in primary school, while the others are currently in high school and study English and Chinese in the evenings. Doen hopes that with continued savings, along with future loans from Kiva and MAXIMA, she will able to send her children to pursue university degrees.
