Vincent owns a wholesale beverage depot in the village of Nansana. He is a distributor of sodas and beer which he sells in cases to retailers. Most villages have one distributor. He will purchase quantities of 200 cases at a time with 24 bottles to a case. A case of soda will cost him 9700 shillings, or about 400 shillings per bottle. He will then sell it to the retailer who will sell it to the customer for 500 shillings. So, the gross profit earned between both the wholesaler and the retailer is about 100 shillings per bottle. 100 shillings is about five cents.

Vincent has been a distributor since 1993. This is an excellent business, because you have a contract with the bottler and you have little competition. Sodas and beer are relatively inexpensive, and they offer a simple luxury that even the people of the villages can occasionally afford, although often alcohol is homemade. Vincent has been in operation since 1993 and with his lending group for the past nine years. With his loan, he plans on stocking more beverages. Eventually he would like to be able to afford a vehicle, buy some land, and build a house.

Vincent Semuju is a wholesale distributor of sodas and beer to retailers in Nansana. He sells crates to shop owners and bars at a retail price as well as to various functions in and around Nansana. With his kind of business, he has a contract with the bottling and brewering companies and usually they bring the crates to his shop as agreed upon. Before the loans, Vincent would buy fewer crates because of limited capital but now with the help of loans, he is able to buy in bulk as he makes weekly loan repayments to Pearl Microfinance through his lending group. He is so thankful for the Kiva loans and will be pleased if he appears on the website in his business. He has big plans for himself, his business and family.
