Clara Momoh

Clara runs a pepper soup “joint” with her husband along a major road in Benin City. Pepper soup is a popular snack/meal in which meat or fish is stewed in a spicy broth. Clara’s pepper soup is outstanding and people come to enjoy its bold flavors as well as socialize throughout the day and evening (sometimes until as late as 3am). Clara used her Kiva loan to buy 400 cartons of drinks (sodas and beer) to sell as well as rent the shop next to the restaurant, purchase more tables and chairs and expand. The good soup and socializing her place is known for was attracting so many patrons that space was getting tight.

Clara and her husband are saving up to start a family and hope to have a baby in the not-so-distant future. She is thankful for the assistance of her Kiva lenders and appreciates what you have done for her. “I was very happy,” she says.
