Mavlyuda has been able to significantly improve her shoe business thanks to the help of her Kiva loan. She bought an additional location in the bazaar in the city of Spitamen and has been able to expand her stock of goods. Once a week, Mavlyuda travels by herself to the nearby city of Istaravshan where she usually buys around 20 boxes of shoes. She tells me that business during the summer months is fairly slow but that it begins to pick up at the end of August once the Tajik migrant workers return from the their jobs in Russia. With the additional income she has received from her expanded business, Mavlyuda has done renovations to her house and has been able to pay for the education for her child who is still in school. Things remain difficult for her however, and she must both work and take care of her kids due to the fact that her husband works as an accountant in Russia.
